When you show up, you bring heat

indoor-outdoor-thermometer

It’s been a week now since our unit went down. No A/C or heat in the house. Just open windows. An occasional fan.

But it’s been fine, thanks to pleasant spring temperatures. And knowing the repair guy was coming today.

It’s made me more attentive to the thermometer though. Both outside and inside.

And here’s what has surprised me. When we come into a room at 72 degrees, before long, it jumps to 74.

Just our mere presence makes a tangible difference.

Never underestimate the power of your presence. Whether you say a word or not, you’re bringing heat.

Showing up matters.

Where can you show up today?

Good one. Some wise cracker might say, “Is that saying I’m hot?” but I’m not one of those people. 🙂 I have several appointments today. I would love to say I make a difference and warm up the room when I am there.

My husband may or may not have made some comments to that effect, Bill. 🙂 I’m sure you are making a difference everywhere you go today! And a positive one at that.

Love this outlook! Great to remember when those feelings of “I don’t matter or make a difference” cross our minds. I’ve been guilty of this time and again. This made me think. Thanks for that. ♥

Great point, Lisa, and a fun way to observe a lesson! I think we all underestimate ourselves to one degree or another. (no pun intended) Hope your unit is fixed with little hassle – have a great day!

Thanks, Ginger. It’s funny that I’m actually closing windows this morning because I’m cold. Maybe I need to make my presence known a little bit more and move around more. ha.

Great observation. Goes to show how special each life and soul is in this life. Every one counts and God knows the number of hairs on each head and days we have to make the choice of where we spend eternity while here.

I agree, Floyd. And that’s a lot of hair to keep up with. ha. To think that God cares about us far more than we even care for ourselves and others! That’s an incredible God.

Hi Lisa! What a great lesson to learn from a broken furnace. I don’t know if my presence would warm up a whole room that much, but maybe at least a little corner? It’s fun to think about how our presence can really make a physical and spiritual difference in the people and places we go. I’m know I have felt invisible many times. This short post makes me realize that just showing up creates energy. Why not tap in and use it??

Wishing you warmer temps inside and out,
    Ceil

I’ve felt invisible many times in my life too, Ceil. It’s usually not a good feeling (except every now and again I’m grateful for it! ha). But we really aren’t ever invisible–certainly never to God–but not even to others. I’m so thankful that presence does count. Our words may not always come out right, but just showing up speaks volumes in itself.

The temps here have been marvelous still! We got the AC fixed yesterday; tested it; then turned it right back off and kept the windows open to enjoy the spring breezes. 🙂

I wasn’t sure where you were going with the title…that is a good thing because it draws us in! I had never paid attention to the thermostat in regards to our presence but I DO know at my MIL’s house, which is already 85+ in there at all times, when the family gathers, oh my word. It is sweltering and we are running to open windows and turn on the A/C. All the while she is cold and saying that we brought the heat! Lol. Great post and reminder today. Thank you! ♥

Ha. Yes, a crowd definitely brings the heat! I try to remember that before I have a crowd over–and adjust the thermostat appropriately a couple hours ahead of time. I tend to be colder than most people though, so I have to keep that in mind too. 🙂 Thanks for stopping in, Nannette.

This is so true! And when we bring that heat, unplanned things start to happen. We inspire each other to see and understand the things differently and to have new ideas and find new ways to do things.

I love your emphasis on the NEWness that comes when we show up! That’s one of my (many) favorite things about God–he’s always full of surprises and unplanned things. Have a great weekend, Joanna.

Awesome post and uplifting. I notice the temperature rising most when we’re entertaining and the dining room is full…and my husband who is always cold makes it warmer. And then everybody starts fanning themselves! Ha! Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

    Luv,
    Mary

I’m usually the one who is always cold–I’ve learned to take a sweater everywhere I go. Especially in the summer! ha. I guess we should be grateful that God is the one in charge of the ultimate thermostat–he knows exactly what each of us needs.
