THINGS I LOVE

  • Richard Rohr. What can I say? I love his writings. His thoughts. I don’t agree with him on everything, but he challenges me to keep going deeper and wider in how I live Christianity. Nice (although long) talk here about “Becoming Stillness
  • Proud of my oldest daughter Morgan running her first half-marathon last weekend!

  • Yet another podcast. I gave in and subscribed to This American Life instead of picking up individual episodes here and there. All interesting so far.
  • This song from Matt Maher from Psalm 23, “Rest,” at the end of his new album Saints and Sinners (which is also very good, by the way). The harmonies. The gentleness. The words. The Lord.

  • I always love watching baptisms of friends! Got to witness around 200 last Sunday night.

WHAT I’M READING

  • I’m so enjoying 50 Women Every Christian Should Know by Michelle DeRusha even more than I expected. Love hearing these stories of radical women in their time (and some, even for our time!).

LOOKING FORWARD TO

  • Andrew’s wedding (son of one of the 4 Corners) Saturday night and spending time with 3 of my life-long best friends
  • My baby girl Jenna’s graduation from Auburn next weekend! Then her internship in Guatemala. And then her moving back home (I am right in looking forward to this, yes? ha) until she finds a teaching job
  • Watching our flowers grow

Thanks, Brenda. This is always my favorite time of the year to be outside. It’s fun watering my flowers now. Not so fun in the heat of summer when they’re shriveling up anyway. ha.

Hi Lisa! Richard Rohr is a huge favorite with our family. My brother and sister attended a retreat in New Mexico with him some years back. They loved it.
I tried the headline analyzer, and it was interesting! Never heard of it before, thank you for the link! Your daughter is adorable, by the way. And in shape too 🙂
In May, I hope to continue eating right and getting back to exercise as able. I am also trying to get myself ready to launch a speaking ministry. Yeah. It’s overwhelming…
    Blessings,
    Ceil

I would love to attend a retreat with Richard Rohr. That’s neat that your brother and sister were able to—back before many of us had even heard of him! Yes, my daughter is definitely in shape. I used to be a runner, but I never ran with the ease that she does. I loved being a runner more than I loved actually running. 🙂 You’ve got a lot going on. I pray your foot will continue to heal as you step out into new ventures! You can do it.

Loved the picture of the baptisms. Very cool. Glad to hear about your daughter’s accomplishments. Both my girls have done 1/2s. Me? I ride mine. What am I looking forward to? Consistently warm weather to ride my bike for more than a day or two a week because the weather is so iffy. Have a great weekend Lisa. And an even better May.

If you ride 13 miles, you’re still doing great, Bill. Good for you. Hopefully you’ll have as nice of weather as we’ve been having lately. An unusually cool spring in Alabama this year (which means we’re actually having a spring instead of going straight to summer!).

You know Lisa, I keep thinking maybe I should do one of these types of posts on my blog…but then I think, man, what you just put together is packed with so much good information now I feel overloaded at all the things I want to go look at. 🙂 I might have to jump in and do it. You inspire me! xoxo

You should definitely jump in and do this, Nicki! I’d love to see what you’d share. It’s been fun to look back and forward over the month.

  4. Pamela

My Amazon wish list grows each time I visit. 🙂 I’m so eager to try memorizing Scripture with your method. I struggle with it the older i get! I wish I would have taken more advantage of the ease in memorizing when I was young. I’m thankful for the Scripture I did memorize in my youth.

    1. LisaNotes Post author

I’m with you, Pamela–it was much easier to memorize and retain verses when I was younger. But oh well. Hopefully we got the gist of it still with us even if we don’t have the exact words. 🙂

There are many types of homelessness and those that sail through life thinking they would never let it happen to them should watch themselves, as it just might. I am now officially homeless, although i am still living in my house. This is so that the social housing people will house me before i end up on the street. I have been homeless 4 times in my life, but thankfully never on the street. However i once met a man who had made a life for himself living on the street and said, that although he got cold in winter he liked his life and didn’t want to have the restrictions of living in a house. I often think about him and wonder if he made it through yet another winter!

You’re exactly right–none of us should think we’re beyond falling into homelessness or any number of things. We never know what the future holds, despite our well-laid plans. God sometimes has other designs for our lives that we could never imagine. I’m glad you’ve never had to be on the streets in your homelessness. May the social housing people find the right place for you that you will enjoy and thrive in!

I’ve been behind on my visits, so enjoyed this post to catch up on what you’re up to, Lisa! Some good stuff here and more blessings to come! I always enjoy hearing about what you’re reading! April was a bust for me in that department, I’m hoping I can take more time in May for the written word {and Word!} Have a blessed week!
