Memorize Psalm 121 Together

What words will float around in your head in 2017?

If you want to be more intentional about what you tell yourself, this is what works for me: memorize a chapter from the Bible.

AΒ community is gathering now to memorize Psalm 121 together. You’re invited, too. We’ll officially begin Monday, January 16.

The pace is among the easiest, yet it will only take six weeks to get this one in. This psalm is short but powerful, every word counting.

There are certain strong truths that the Lord wants us to know:

  • God is our help
  • He won’t let our feet be moved
  • He doesn’t sleep on the job
  • He is our shade

If you want to learn these eight verses with us, sign up now at Do Not Depart.

You’ll receive an email with links to downloadable resources, plus a short weekly email reminder of the verse of the week for the next six weeks.

Here’s the schedule.

Already this psalm is finding its way into my teaching. I’ll be sharing part of it tomorrow night with my women’s Bible study — and I’m so thankful for the push that this group always gives me!

I’m sorry, Andrew. πŸ™ Praying for your healing and comfort. I might not be able to remember all your dogs’ names either—you’re a loyal friend to them!

I decided to join Beth Moore’s scripture memorization team this year. This is the first time for me and I have always felt that I am not good at memorizing Scripture. However, it has already been so impactful.

Will you be memorizing other Scripture throughout the year after you finish Psalm 121? My verses right now are Ephesians 1:11-12 MSG. Theses are my words for the year as I embrace my one word-purpose.

I’ve heard such good things about Beth Moore’s scripture team. I’ve never joined there but I’d like to one day. Hope you continue having great success with it! I’ll likely memorize a New Testament chapter after the Psalm, perhaps his spring. Ephesians 1–a great chapter–has been my nemesis to memorize. πŸ™ I’ve tried memorizing it but it just would not stick. If I ever attempt it again, I think I’ll try it with the Message. In the ESV, it seemed as if it were only one or two VERY long sentences, all linked together with the same prepositions. ha.

I’m glad you love the Psalms, too, Ruth. There are so many great truths here that bring me comfort as well. And yes, including the one that God never falls asleep on the job!

What a great study you’re doing, Anita. That’s wonderful to study the Psalms. I can’t read Psalm 63 without hearing a song in my head. That’s another great thing about them—so many are still set to music even in our day, which really helps me remember them even better.

God bless you as you go through Job. πŸ™‚ Not always an easy book. But valuable nonetheless. Praying for your time with God in Job to bring you what he wants you to get.

I Downloaded this last week. Great idea !! I will join U. I like psalm 1 and 103. a few years ago my husband and father and I decided to try to memorize James. We got the first two chapters. It still comes back.

That’s awesome that you’re joining us, Somer! So glad about that. I love Psalm 1 and 103 as well. I’ve attempted to memorize them both in the past, but 1 stuck better than 103. πŸ˜‰ That’s cool that you and your husband and father memorized together! I used to memorize with my daughters when they were still at home and it was always helpful (although they put me to shame because they could remember so much more!).

I don’t think I have a favorite. I have parts that have been a banner during challenges – Psalm 18:2 is from about 28 or so years ago. I turned it into a song. Psalm 139. Psalm 139: 13-18 was/is a banner as my children grow – because he is not surprised. He knows the plan and the solutions to the challenges. Psalm 23 is a special one for our family. The boys memorized it in Mothers Day Out when they were 2 and 3 and then led us in prayer on the way to school in the mornings until they started driving themselves. I am going to try and join you for this memorization! Shalom, Lisa!

How wonderful that you link many of these psalms to specific seasons in your life, Maryleigh. I like to think that that’s how God intends it to be for us. I’m so glad that you’ll be joining us for Psalm 121! I have high expectations for it.

Yippee! I’m glad you’ll be joining us again, Floyd. I’ve got a feeling you won’t need to peek too much in this one because the words will come easily. The hardest part (for me) is just keeping the words in the right order. But even when they don’t, it’s still all good. πŸ™‚

Oh, the Psalms – such great comfort and encouragement. I can look through them and see how God’s words has upheld me in some hard times. Psalm 91 when our son was 4 and battling a serious kidney condition. Psalm 139 when I needed to remember that God made me complete. Psalm 73 when my flesh was failing and I needed God’s strength. Okay, so no favorite, just all good!!

Sounds like a wonderful idea! I love Psalm 121. Well, that and most of the others too. πŸ™‚ I’m being more intentional about my scriptural studies and meditation this year too. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog for Ceil’s interview. It’s great to meet you!

Nice to meet you, too, Karen. Being intentional in your studies and meditation is a wonderful goal for this year! I pray it will go well for you as I pray it will go well for those of us in Psalm 121. I love how God is faithful to work through our intentions.

Oooh, I am going to be looking up this psalm and challenging myself to memorize it along with you! Thank you for this great opportunity to grow my faith. <3 My favorite psalm is 139. I would LOVE to memorize that someday. <3

Yay! Glad you’re joining in, Chris. I’m praying that it’ll be a faith-building spiritual discipline for all of us. Psalm 139 is a great Psalm, too. Hope you can get around to it someday; it’ll be worth it.
