But this time as a small group DVD study. I’m participating in a fabulous 5-week group of new and old friends, serendipitously started by a child (now a beautifully wise adult) who I attended church with when I was a teenager and she was a little girl.

In my daily Bible reading I’m in Ezekiel in the Old Testament (ugh! honestly, the imagery of God here is tough-going).

THINGS I LOVE
- Weekend with the eldest
We spent the weekend with our oldest daughter, Morgan, and husband at their place. It was fun hanging out with Morgan’s in-laws too—so thankful she has great ones.
- My youngest daughter’s Kindergarten class
Jenna lets me help out one afternoon a week and I’m loving it!
- Guatemala follow-up
For those of you who prayed for Jenna this summer while she was in Guatemala, here’s a brief interview about it with Auburn University, College of Education.

These are from J. I. Packer’s classic book, Knowing God. We finished reading it with the online group at Tim Challies last week. I love his series of Reading Classics Together.
3. Take a daily dose to overcome anxiety
What is it? It’s grace.
4. 31 Days of “Tools to Memorize a Bible Chapter”
This was my series for the 31 Day Challenge for October. (I have to admit I’m glad it’s over! I love participating, but whew.)
5. Not perfect
Perfectionism is rarely your friend, and especially not with scripture memory. Drop it and move forward without it.
LOOKING FORWARD TO
- A new ministry
A precious couple of teachers in our area are expanding the way they help feed the hungry in our community. Jeff and I are excited to get involved. The soft opening of the House of the Harvest is this weekend (!) but a more full opening will happen in 2016.
It’s been fun reconnecting with people in our community from different decades of our past, including Marianne from homeschooling days.
- A new Servolution
And coincidentally (not! It’s God!), our local church campus is also beginning a new ministry this month. We’ve participated in our Huntsville campus’s Servolution, but now we’ll be able to serve closer to our own neighborhoods. Including sending volunteers to help at the House of the Harvest (it all comes together). - A road trip
Jeff is still feeding his hobby of buying/selling Cushman motor scooters, so we’ll taking a trip soon up the east coast to collect parts, and get to see some dear friends that we haven’t seen in a long while. - Faithful flowers
Grateful for flowers that refuse to believe winter is on its way. Can I believe with them?

My previous posts
I just finished what i am calling my trifecta-the church’s anniversary, the chamber of commerce banquet (I am a board member) and our Day of Service. I am looking forward to a breather knowing Thanksgiving Day will find us serving lunch to the community and Christmas morning will find us serving breakfast to the community. In between…my life of ministry happens. Oh yeah, I hope to find some time to ride my bike (weather permitting) and do some reading.
You better breathe fast, Bill–Thanksgiving will be here before we know it. 🙂 Just read your post about the service day. So glad it was such a success and that many were helped–and that many were able to help! Equally important for those who get to serve as for those who are served. We all are participants together, regardless of which “side” of the serve we are on.
I failed to mention that trifecta was all within one week. And that is not counting the New Beginnings (our crisis pregnancy center) banquet with Pam Tebow (of which I am a board member) which took place just two weeks before the trifecta. I’m tired. 🙂
Wow–you do deserve some rest, Bill! Take it when you can. (Or get on your bike, whichever rejuvenates you more.)

OK, I watched that video about the Moms talking to each other like their kids. I also watched the next one, “If Moms ate like their kids do.” Oh my goodness, I laughed so hard!! So enjoyed that.
And I also enjoyed all the other *stuff* that you included in this post. Love the heart of service that your family has – and how you all follow through by acting in obedience to the call. Such an inspiration!
I just received in the mail Priscilla Shirer’s newest book, “Fervent.” It’s about prayer, and I can’t wait to delve into it!

Thanks, Jean. The packing instructions is spot-on for my husband and me. I start packing days ahead of a trip and he’ll take five minutes whenever he wants to, and be done. (Granted, I pack little extras that he doesn’t think of and that he benefits from too! ha). Hope you are having a great Thursday!

I’m glad Write 31 Days is over, too. I enjoyed it, but even though I was posting quotes and not original material, it took time. Then I was wary of posting much else because I didn’t want to overwhelm people.

I actually got a little frustrated with the “clear teaching of Scripture” post.
I’ve been happy we still have flowers hanging on, too. We’ve had a couple of nights of frost but not anything terribly cold yet. I am hoping this means winter won’t be too bad. 🙂
I absolutely love the 1 second app! It’s been so fun and easy to do. It stitches the seconds together for you; all you have to do is choose which second clip you want to use. There are times I wish it would allow more than one second though—that’s hardly any time at all. ha.
We feel pretty much the same about 31 days. I’m glad it is over too, even though yes, I enjoyed it as well. It always takes more time than I anticipate it will. And yes, I feel like I’m overwhelming people with too many posts too (including myself!). Back to normal now. 🙂

I loved that photo of Obama with the baby too. It’s so great to see such huge political figures act like real people.
What fun! A trip to the east coast with your hubs, that sounds lovely! And being in the classroom with little ones lets you be a kid again, right? I am angling to go to Grandparents Day at my granddaughter’s preschool. What ever-loving fun.
I’m sure you are glad your 31 days of writing are over. Phew. That’s such a commitment, and I have to give you props for it. I’m not sure I could ever do that…

I posted that video on my FB page too; too funny not to share. Yes, I loved the Obama pictures as well. In the end, we’re all still human, more alike than different, regardless of what “positions” we hold (or don’t). Hope you got to go to Grandparents Day! Fun times. 🙂
Awesome recap, Lisa. Funny stuff… and convicting… Love the shots of your family. At first glance I thought the picture of the cell phone one was your oldest and son in law. Amazing how something so good can be so bad. Like all things in this life I suppose.
Wow–since you said that about the picture, I looked at it again and definitely see how you might have mistaken it for Morgan and hubby. What’s really crazy (and what I didn’t notice before) is it looks exactly like their porch! ha. I’ll have to send it to her and see what she thinks.
It sounds and looks like you’ve had a busy month! I read along with your 31 days but didn’t memorize along (between some trips and the house-building process and Tirzah Mae doing some teething and a cold that just.won’t.end, I knew I needed to not add anything extra to my plate.) I’m hoping to read it through again as I memorize a chapter sometime next year.
You’re doing good to keep up with life at all right now. 🙂 A busy season for sure when you have a little one AND are building a house plus all the other things routine with all our lives. Blessings to you!

Thanks, Leigh–the grand opening today went very well! It was so exciting to see families coming in who had been wondering where they would get food. God provides. Also interesting was that our building (that we were able to purchase for $1 this week!!!) is two doors down from a Dollar General. A couple of their employees and then their manager came by, and subsequently sent their own customers our way.
1 second a day video, not sure mine would be that interesting. Love the mum video made me smile. Starting Anna Kerenina today. Still reading the Old Testament, in Ezekiel too, chapter 23. The Martian – seen the film, didn’t know it was a book as well.
My “second a day” videos probably aren’t so interesting to anybody else but me, especially when I get to the end of a day, realizing I haven’t done a video yet, and just film whatever is around me–a book pile, food in the fridge, etc. 🙂 But that’s life.
Hope you’ll enjoy Anna Karenina! A big project, but a good one. I’m taking a break from Ezekiel this week and reading in the New Testament–1 Corinthians. It’s much easier reading.
