Journalism isn’t dying, but it’s changing WAY faster than people understand
Do you read the newspaper anymore? I still read my local newspaper (at least on the 3 days a week it comes out). Interesting article here on the the “what” basket, the “so what” basket and the “now what” basket of journalism.

Snapchat Tutorial
I’ve found where my kids hang out the most! Snapchat. But the app is NOT intuitive to me. So Cliff Ravenscraft caught me up a few nights ago. Now I’m probably driving Morgan and Jenna crazy with all my snaps and stories.

On Reading

What Should I Read Next? by Modern Mrs. Darcy (Anne Bogel)
I should never have found this podcast. If you want to wreak havoc with your to-read list, don’t listen either. But if you can’t help yourself, you’ll love the awesome book suggestions like I do.

Podcast Interviews with Rob Bell
I love when my favorite authors meet up, in this case, Rob Bell and Richard Rohr (Episode 86), and Rob Bell and Krista Tippett (Episode 89) of NPR’s On Being. Both interviews are fascinating and have me wanting to read more of Richard Rohr’s books and Krista Tippet’s, Becoming Wise.

Things I Love

 Lil’ Timmy the Turtle
This baby turtle crawled into our garage two weeks ago, so I took him to Jenna’s Kindergarten class. Lil’ Tim is now the class pet.

• Photo Project
Do you print photos anymore? I still like to have a few hardcopies to put in photo albums, but I am SO behind. But I’ve recently printed several from 2015. Next, 2014. (I’m working backwards.)

Comcast Cares Day
We were excited that Comcast chose Jenna’s elementary school for their Comcast Cares Day to give back to the community. Over 200 Comcast employees and school employees/friends planted flowers, painted bike racks, and beautified the school grounds.

Hi Lisa! I looked at the videos for Snapchat and Evernote. I don’t think I’ll use them, but I like to keep current with at least what they are!
You are reading The Interior Castle? I have tried at least three times to get through that book, but I get lost after about the Fourth Mansion. I think that’s because I am not spiritually progressed enough to understand it? I’d love to hear your thoughts when you get through it.

Your ‘second a day’ videos are always so fun! Love the classroom pics (cute turtle!)
    Blessings,
    Ceil

It’s funny that you mentioned you stopped reading The Interior Castle because as of this morning, I decided to read more in “Entering the Castle” before I read further in The Interior Castle. 🙂 I’m struggling to get through it (I’m only on the third mansion). Maybe I need a more modern version? Entering the Castle is Caroline Myss’s journey through the material so I’m expecting to get a lot out of her book anyway.

I love the turtle too. 🙂 I hope he lives at least through the rest of the month so the kids can keep enjoying him.

Yay–glad to hear you enjoyed The Boys in the Boat. I’ve heard such good things about it. I wasn’t quite ready to read it yet (I’ve got too many other books going), but I’d had it on hold at my library, and it became available, so what’s a girl to do but take it and read? 🙂

I’ll have to save the Evernote and Snapchat videos for later. What I’ve heard about Evernote confuses me. It seems like there is too much to it. But perhaps the video will sort it out for me. I ave heard of Snapchat but not visited yet. I’m wondering if I need one more thing to keep up with. 🙂 But it will probably depend on whether people I know are there.

I am SO behind on photos. I have shoeboxes of photos from pre-digital days, plus I do like to print some from each year for scrapbooks.

    1. LisaNotes Post author

Evernote can definitely be confusing if you dig into all the things it can do. I have mainly used it as a place to store documents and links, but I’d like to use it for a few more things. But such a learning curve; is it worth it? To be determined….

Snapchat does feel like one more thing to keep up with, so I need to let something else go. So many ways out there to interact!

Glad to hear there’s someone else out there who does still print photos. Both my girls still do some too, so that makes at least four of us now. 🙂

Lisa, what a remarkable round up of everything and anything! I have to agree re: Anne Bogel’s blog–I subscribed for two weeks and couldn’t keep up with the book recommendations. Oy.

The little turtle is oh-so-cute. Fun times.

Thanks for this and for all you do on the Interwebs for Jesus.

    1. LisaNotes Post author

Thanks, Jody. I keep bookmarking suggestions from Anne Bogel, but I know I’ll never get around to actually reading all those books. ha. At best, I think the suggestions are planting seeds in my mind, then after I hear the same book titles recommended from different sources, I may finally find one of the books and read it. 🙂

You read “Lord of the Rings”!

Awesome! I wondered if it made your reading list this year.

What did you think of it?

Tolkien was so much a part of my childhood I sometimes wonder how his novels appear to someone first introduced to them as an adult.

    1. LisaNotes Post author

Yes, after 50+ years, I finally read the Lord of the Rings! And loved all 3 books! 🙂 Can you believe it? I guess they’ve been popular for a reason after all (and not just for geeky males, haha). Such rich spiritual imagery in every book. I’m sure I missed a lot of things in the details (a re-read in another 50 years?), but I feel enriched by having finally read them. Better late than never, right?

      1. Joe Pote

        Absolutely!

        I’m glad you enjoyed them.

I recall first hearing them read by my father when I was 5 years old. I first read them myself when I was around 10 years old, and have reread them several times since.

As much as I enjoyed them as a child, I think I really appreciate them more now. There some layers of meaning that are best appreciated after a few years of living.

        1. LisaNotes Post author

What a wonderful memory to have those books read to you by your dad! Wow–lots of patience on his part. 🙂 I agree that many “children’s” books just get deeper and deeper as we age. I recently reread A Wrinkle in Time and The Giver and both books held more meaning to me now than when I was young.

    Hi Lisa!
Loved this informative, fun post! I use Evernote all the time to take and keep notes and plan to go back and watch that video in total. I have Snapchat on my iPhone to occasionally connect with two of my grandkids, but not sure I am adding that to my techie grid. I also enjoy hearing what you have read and are reading. I’m with Ceil about Interior Castles. I have never been able to get through the whole thing. I hope you can enlighten me on that one! Always enjoy connecting with you!

    1. LisaNotes Post author

I’m glad to hear that you make good use of Evernote! I hope to get better at using it because it does seem like such a handy tool (and free too—that’s always good, ha). I’ll keep y’all updated on The Interior Castle. It’s not going very well so far. Hopefully as I read Entering the Castle, I’ll be able to better understand The Interior Castle. 🙂

    1. LisaNotes Post author

I’m glad you enjoyed it, too! I knew you would since you love “On Being” as much as I do. I learn something new and often someBODY new with each episode.

  6. Jean Wise

What a great list. I just reinstalled evernote so will check out that video. I do want to use it more. AND did just get – thanks to your recommendation – Entering The Castle. Haven’t started it yet but soon will. Let’s talk about it together some time.
